If you belong to a book club that is reading or has read Straight River, I’ve prepared a list of book club discussion questions you can use to stimulate discussion about the book.   1. What did you like best about this book?
  2. What did you like least about this book?
  3. At what point in the story did you think Matt should have stopped trying to stop Millennium Four and save himself?
  4. Which characters in the book did you like best?
  5. Which characters did you like least?
  6. How did the characters change throughout the story? How did your opinion of them change?
  7. What feelings did this book evoke for you?
  8. Did the music terms, similes, song references, and Matt’s voice analyzing enhance or detract from the story?
  9. Because of the elements in question #7, did Matt come across as a believable musician character?
  10. How well do you think the author built the world in the book?
  11. Did the other characters seem believable to you? Did they remind you of anyone?
  12. Did you like the ending, or would you change it?
  13. In the last scene, when Matt decides on which fork in the road to take, where did you imagine he would go?
