I am now an Author-Publisher

Had a great time at UW–Madison’s Writers’ Institute last weekend. Great speakers, good networking, lots of new ideas and information. One term I picked up and will use going forward describes most accurately what I am. I am an “Author-Publisher.” The term “self-published” is inaccurate unless one does all the jobs needed to publish a book themselves: editing, cover design, formatting, uploading to distributors, overseeing the printing process, etc. The term “independent publisher” is closer but still implies only a publisher is involved, like I the author am really only a small player in the publishing world as opposed to the Big 5 publishing houses.

So from now on, call me an author-publisher. 🙂

Two big events this weekend

Bowl For Kids’ Sake– a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern MN. The important part is bowling with my Little Brother Ethan. But I’ll also be signing books for other bowlers who want to donate an additional buck or two for the cause.

Chapter 2 Books meet-and-greet–Saturday, April 21, from 11-1. Chapter 2 Books is at 226 Locust St. in Hudson, Wisconsin, just a short drive from the Twin Cities metro area. I always appreciate independent bookstores that are willing to take a chance on less well-known local and regional authors. I’ll do my best to generate some sales of Castle Danger, maybe some others, and raise their visibility and reputation as a bookstore that genuinely cares about helping authors succeed.

I even think winter will have finally given up the ghost here in MN by then (about 5 inches of snow here in Owatonna today). Temps should be around 60; barely got above 30. Please join me at Chapter 2 Books on Saturday and celebrate spring with a great read for the backyard deck or porch on a pleasant spring day.
