Mainstreet Day Reminder and Two New Events Scheduled

Hopkins Mainstreet Day

This is a Mainstreet Day reminder that I’ll be in Hopkins, on Main Street between 10th and 11th Avenues, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm selling and signing copies of Straight River and Castle Danger. The weather might be a bit rainy, so bring your umbrella.

First up is an event at the Owatonna Public Library on Tuesday, June 4, at 7:00 pm. The title of my program is tentatively called “Everything You Wanted to Know About Writing a Novel, but were Afraid to Ask.” I’ll start with a few comments about some of the more obvious questions. Examples: “Where do you get your story ideas?” “How much money do authors make for each book they sell?” “How long does it take to write a novel?”

But if you ever wondered about things like cover designs, editors, publishing companies, best sellers, agents, rejections, etc., I’ll give it my best shot. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I’ve been writing for more than ten years. I’ve published two novels and two essays for a leading canoeing and camping magazine. Additionally, I’ve done freelance writing for several websites.

I’ll have my books available for sale in case you missed the book launch for Straight River back in February and early March. I’ll probably have a few copies of Castle Danger¬†available too. For added incentive, I’ll bring a print of the new cover I commissioned for Castle Danger! (It’s really good.)

I’m thrilled to be returning to Austin MN to participate in the Austin Area Commission for the Arts’ two-day celebration of all things creative, the Austin ArtWorks Festival. I participated in 2017 and was wowed by how big the Festival was for such a modestly sized town. Music, visual arts, literature, food, games, activities on multiple stages and in multiple venues. The event is well-attended by area residents and visitors. I’ll be presenting at Sweet Reads Books (one of my favorite bookstores and owners) sometime on Saturday, August 24th, but the schedule has yet to be finalized. Check my Events and Appearances page as the date nears to be sure of the time.
