While the author’s away, my loyal beta readers are well into critiquing my “polished first draft” of the sequel to Castle Danger (working title: Book Three). While they do their thing, I’m doing what smart (?) authors do–taking a break from writing AND from civilization. I‘ll be up in my favorite place in the world in a week or so, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA). No TV, no computers, no cell phones (in most places). Just me and rocks and water and trees and a few million mosquitos and uncountable other creatures great and small. It’s a great place to decompress from our world and the rewards for roughing can often be spectacular: Aurora Borealis shows, wildlife sightings of moose, bear, eagles, river otters, wolves, pine martens, trumpeter swans, spectacular sunsets, stars so thick in the sky you don’t even need moonlight to be able to see, etc.
One benefit of waiting for critiques on one project is that I’ve made great progress on my fourth book. It’s a middle-grade adventure novel whose two protagonists are a Little Brother and a Big Brother. I hope it will appeal to kids and adults who might be interested in participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. And of course, I’ll donate a portion of all sales to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern MN.

Please check my Events & Appearances page for details on upcoming live selling and signing events I’m doing this summer. The first one is coming up fast–Downtown Thursday in Downtown Owatonna MN on June 3.
